Sam started doing gymnastics when she was only 6 years old, so she was always active from an early age, just more from a sports perspective. She carried the gymnastics on until she was 24 when a snapped achilles meant it was probably time to stop doing back flips.

Sam admits that after this injury, being British champion at 14 years old to then almost not having an identity again was tough.

Sam was originally from Crewe, not going to university meant she got a job in a call centre and was looking to start out on a new path. Although not what she wanted to do forever, this job really taught her a lot. Especially resilience.

For those who aren’t familiar with the series, I’ve decided to do a take on ‘Humans of New York’ but for people who call Manchester home.

People of MCR will try and tell the story of this incredible city and all the people who contribute to it being the fastest growing city in Europe.

So how does this work? I will get each person to tell me their story in their own words...

Better late than never as I think I interviewed these guys when it didn’t go dark at 16.00. I promise I will get quicker at turning these around as I genuinely have some belters lined up that I can’t wait to share.

I still can’t believe that these two guys managed to secure a deal with Harvey Nichols with no product, no manufacturing capability, but with just a brand name, a concept and a passion.

They say never go into business with your friends, but I genuinely think Liam and Mark prove that that’s not always the case. With Amy absolutely crushing the marketing side of the business, I can’t wait to see how far they can take this gin.

Finally had the chance to sit down with the guys from Manchester Young Professionals! Like most of the interviews I’ve done, I can always find similarities in the situation i’m in, with the people i’m interviewing. This has never been truer than with these two. (Andrew and Rich)

Two of the nicest, down to earth, hard working lads you will meet in Manchester, along with the help of a few key individuals and some amazing sponsors/partners, they have turned something from nothing into the largest network of young professionals in Manchester.

I’d walked past Over Under so many times on Deansgate without ever going in to grab a coffee. It used to be a newsagent and I think it took me a while to realise and remember that it was now a coffee place. I’m glad I finally went in to give it a try.

I went along recently to interview the owner Ed Barry.

After chatting for about 10 minutes, I’d already realised that this guy was like a brother from another mother. Our lives were so similar it was strange.

The only difference was that Ed started his journey by packing up his whole life to go and be a male nanny in New York.

I walked in to the Federal site in the Northern Quarter of Manchester for the first time in January 2015. I was talking to this guy behind the counter about coffee and having a general chat about Manchester but thought nothing of it.

Several visits later, after getting hooked on the Hodson coffee blend and the ridiculously good brunch offering, I realised that the guy I was chatting to was Claudio, the owner of Federal.

This happens a lot to Claudio, mainly because without admitting to the man crush too much, the guy looks good for 37. I look older than Claudio! (I’m 29 for those that don’t know but I’ve had a tough paper round)
